Ultrathane Bollards – Heritage Product Ranges

Bollard Construction
70D shore hardness polyurethane is cast over a steel core in a large range of popular bollard styles. Two layers of polyurethane paint are applied to the bollard to give a rich gloss finish. This creates a very hard wearing low maintenance, non-rusting bollard reinforced with a steel core.

Root fixed
All Ultrathane bollards have a root length of 300mm unless otherwise specified. The root diameter ranges from 79-168mm depending on bollard style. Additional concrete anchoring is provided on the root. The normal setting for a bollard is a 400mm3 of concrete on a minimum 1:2:4 ratio.

Base Plate fixed (BP)
A number of Ultrathane bollards are available as a base plated option. This allows the bollard to be bolted via 4 rag bolts to either a concrete or tarmac base and is useful in area’s of reduced footing. This type of fitting is not suitable for dry laid paving areas including block paving.

Bollard Signage
The use of a bollard roundel is an attractive way to incorporate additional pedestrian or traffic information. A range of class 1 traffic signs, as well as bespoke options can be accomodated on selected bollards and posts.

Anti Ram Specification (AR)
All bollards specified as an Anti Ram bollards have a steel core with a minimum root length of 500mm. Individual bollards have unique reinforcing specifications typically a central steel core is constructed from two channel sections welded back-to-back to form a reinforced “H” beam section with further steel plates welded to reinforce the impact zone. The minimum bollard setting is a 600mm3 concrete cube.

Extended Colour Options

The full range of RAL or BS colours are available to special order.

Removable Bollards
Most Ultrathane or Terrathane bollards can be adapted to offer a ‘ removable’ option. A mild steel galvanised ground socket can be specified to fit each of our standard root sizes. The bollard is supplied with a fixing lug that is used to secure the bollard into the socket with a padlock. When the padlock is removed the lid of the socket can be lowered to allow removal of the bollard. The lowered lid will then sit flush with the carriageway and can be secured with the padlock. It is worth considering a second socket as a parking socket for the removed bollard to keep the bollard safe during periods when it is not secured in the ground socket.

Bollard Customisation
An important part of our service is to ensure your bollards are as distinct as you wish them to be. All Ultrathane bollards can be painted to corporate RAL or BS colours. Additionally the casting of special motif and logo’s is easily encompassed in our casting processes. 50mm diameter 5 colour polydome badges can be incorporated into a wide range of bollard designs.

Bollard Highlighting
The use of a second or third colour can really add to your design palette. Gold rings highlighted on black bollards or white highlights and city crests are among a multitude of design options that you can consider.

Bollard visibility options
At night only retro reflected light from vehicle headlamps creates luminance for the people driving – High performance retro reflective tape is essential for highlighting highway bollards at night. Watts supply a variety of 3M Class 1 tapes for all our bollard products that meet the minimum coefficients for Class 1.

Additionally a Class 2 performance can be obtained from Ballotini Paint. Small glass micro beads trapped within the paint matrix act like hundreds of tiny ‘cats eyes’ reflecting retro reflective luminance and highlighting the bollard location.

Bollard Adaptations-Bollard with rail
Bollards can be adapted to accept 50mm x 2000mm Terrathane rails of 1,2 or 3 rail configurations depending upon bollard style.

Bollard Adaptations-Bollard/post with panel
Bollards can be adapted to fit a range of standard Pedestrian guard rail sizes and panel configurations including decorative infill and traffic high visibility panels.

Bollard Adaptations-Bollard with chain fixing
Chain links offer a more subtle way to deter pedestrian traffic. Fully galvanised eyelets are fixed to the bollard to allow a variety of different chain types to be used. Recommended chain types for bollards are single continuous ring, continuous ring with alternate spikes (50x6mm) and continuous cross spikes (50x6mm).
When considering the use of chain-linked bollards it is important to consider the use of all users especially the partially sighted.

Terrathane Bollards – Streetwise Product Range

Bollard Construction
A unique polyurethane blend is cast to create a Terrathane bollard sleeve that is then bonded to a steel core. Terrathane is a high impact polyurethane that can be stressed up to 600% and still return to its original cast state. Terrathane is a completely NO maintenance material.

Root fixed
All Streetwise bollards have a root length of 300mm unless otherwise specified the root diameter ranges from 89-138mm depending on bollard style. Additional concrete anchoring is provided on the root. The normal setting for a bollard is a 400mm3 of concrete on a minimum 1:2:4 ratio.

Flexible Bollards – Impact-flex Product Ranges

Bollard Construction
A unique polyurethane blend is cast to create a thick Terrathane bollard sleeve which does not require a steel core. Terrathane is a high impact polyurethane that can be stressed up to 600% and still return to its original cast state. The unique properties of Terrathane mean it will flex under a given load indefinitely at temperatures of upto 60c. Terrathane flexible bollards are a completely NO maintenance bollard

Short Root fixed only
All Impact-flex, flexible bollards have a short root length of 200mm Additional 2 x 400mm anchor bars provide anchoring. The normal setting for a bollard is a 400mm x 200mm (depth) of concrete on a minimum 1:2:4 ratio.
